“I can do things you cannot. You can do things I cannot. Together we can do great things.” — Mother Teresa
What’s the best advice I ever received? Double down on the goodness. When you’re doing something good to help people, organizations, or the planet, do more of it every day.
Why is it important to remember this today? Because the Republican party has gone down the path of no return. They have fully and wholeheartedly embraced the dark side. They are committed to destroying democracy and taking away our freedoms. The party is burning our boats, leaving us behind on an island to clean up after their mess.
But Americans are ready to take a bold move and take their mess and turn it into our message. You’re here reading this, not doing something else because you know there is more. I mean, weren’t we put on this Earth to serve?
I am writing these words not to be all warm and fuzzy but to remind you that we must take action now to save our country. When was the best time to plant a tree? Five years ago. Do you know when the second-best time to plant a tree is? Right now.
The conflagration that threatens to burn down the Republican party is a blessing in disguise. The world needs more progressives; more people to see that together we are better. Unlike the right-wing, which is turning to cold-heartened authoritarianism, patriotic Americans will lead us out of the darkness by refusing to accept their lies.
We are better than this. We are stronger than this. Together we can fight back against the party that has turned its back on Americans.
The time to act is now. Our democracy needs you.
Find something good to do. And then do it more.
