The Senate voted to reinstate Obama-era regulations and safeguards designed to limit methane pollution.

Three Republicans joined Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents in voting to repeal the Trump administration’s loosening of leak detection and methane capture requirements via the Congressional Review Act.

Methane, an extremely-potent heat trapping gas, is the primary ingredient of so-called natural gas. Atmospheric methane levels surged last year, amidst pandemic-related shutdowns.
