“Man’s capacity for justice makes democracy possible, but man’s inclination to injustice makes democracy necessary.” — Reinhold Niebuhr
Apart from my discovery that the National Museum of Women in the Arts is open for business with a spectacular series of exhibits, the most exciting news of today is that the Federal Investigators issued a search warrant on Rudy Giuliani’s home and office.
Why is this important? Because justice is being served on those who break the law, no matter who you are. Giuliani’s lawyer is reported to be “shocked” at this course of events stating, “What they did today was legal thuggery,” Mr. Costello said. “Why would you do this to anyone, let alone someone who was the associate attorney general, United States attorney, the mayor of New York City, and the personal lawyer to the 45th president of the United States.” (Dude, do you have any knowledge of who your client is? He most likely violated lobbying laws, played an integral role in the Trump – Ukraine scandal, and I’m sure there will be a litany of many more changes over the next few weeks.)
Mr. Costello’s statement is a bunch of malarkey. Does he not know how difficult it is to obtain a search warrant? Police have to show probable cause that a crime was committed and convince a judge to sign the papers. I might have said the police should have searched his properties anyway under exigent circumstances, based on the real possibility that Giuliani has most likely been destroying evidence, but I digress.
The search warrant is a crucial first step in bringing Trump’s nefarious ratpack to justice. More dominoes are sure to fall. The question is, who will rat out 45 next? Will our previous president be criminally charged for his role in the insurrection on January 6? From defamation suits to illegal business dealings, it’s going to be a wild ride for Trump and his cronies. Justice must and will be served on those who have betrayed our country. Our democracy depends on it.
We have much to be optimistic about as a nation. Biden will deliver his first address to a joint session of Congress this evening outlining his plans to unite the country. Despite the always-on disinformation spreading news channels (OAN, Newsmax, Fox, Ben Shapiro, Mark Levin, etc.), Americans are waking up and realizing that the last administration was just one long con job. President Biden and Vice President Harris continue to do their jobs, putting our country back on track quietly and with dignity.
We are slowly climbing out of the hole dug by the incompetence of the Trump White House. Biden is emerging as a hero. Hope is returning to our nation as we continue to clean house. We are calling out politicians who care only about their wallets. In the words of Charlie Chaplin, “Nothing is permanent in this wicked world – not even our troubles.”
