Two days into the second impeachment trial of the 45th president, and what was Ted Cruz doing? Tweeting about breastfeeding. No, really, check it out:

Seriously dude? Senator Cruz, you need to spend a little less time on lactating and a little more time on insurrections, and pay attention to the proceedings — you might learn something. Can someone explain why phones are even allowed while Congress is in session if we can’t even trust our elected officials to pay attention in class?

Heather Cox Richardson reported that while the video compilation from the insurrection of the Capitol played, “Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) looked at papers on their desks, Rick Scott (R-FL) looked at papers on his lap, and Rand Paul (R-KY) doodled.” Rand Paul, doodled? DOODLED? Does anything even matter anymore?

Our country is a mess right now. White supremacists in Congress made the final play to wrest this nation away from logic and decency into the trough of darkness and despair. Who needs the KKK when you’ve got Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Marjorie Taylor Greene doing their dirty work for them?

We need to put these co-conspirators to our national nightmare into a time-out. They should have to write “we will not try to kill our fellow Americans” on a chalkboard 100 times, or for as long as it takes for them to remember that we are trying to heal a nation, not break it apart into a million tiny pieces.

These traitors will go down in history as the modern-day Goebbels, Heydrich, and Mengele. I don’t write those words lightly. Their complete lack of empathy for the American people will only drive a wedge so far between us that violence and discord are sure to follow.

The situation is dire, for sure. Time is running out to save our democracy.

We will get through this together, but we’ve got a lot of work to do.
