Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina will collaborate to build and promote offshore wind energy, the states’ governors announced Thursday.

By working together and synchronizing regulations, the states will seek to create a more predictable, and thus attractive, investment environment for offshore wind companies — including turbine manufacturers — to invest in the region. The collaboration is “absolutely a good thing,” Mike Tidwell, founder and director of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, told The Washington Post. “There’s no perfect energy system,” he added. “Offshore wind doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be better than oil, coal, and gas.”
