A decade ago, former Vice President Al Gore had one of the unlikeliest hit films of all time, An Inconvenient Truth.

Gore’s powerful warning about the science—and his optimism about the solution—became the inspiration for a generation of climate leaders.

On the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Gore has another warning, Earth’s rate of global warming is now 500,000 Hiroshima bombs a day!

That is to say, the blanket of carbon pollution that we have spewed into the atmosphere is trapping extra energy that is equal to detonating a half-million Hiroshima-sized atomic bombs every day, 365 days per year.

And this carbon pollution keeps increasing at an alarming rate  (For more on this metaphor, see my post from several years ago).

But fortunately, as Gore says, the clean energy solutions to climate change have been dropping in price faster than the Earth has been warming as solar and wind energy become more common and available.

The time for action is now.
